4Better value than Polk DB, awesome woofer but some are defective
By Joel Grant
I've only had this a couple days, so I will wait to write a complete review. The first 1042w I received had a misaligned cone/driver/voice coil; thus, when placed at certain orientations (such as face-up) it makes all kinds of terrible sounds. I will lower my (4-star) review if I encounter more defective units. These are made in China and the quality control is obviously not awesome.... I called Infinity to report the defect and give them the serial number so they could follow up on the problem. I was of course going to send it back to Amazon, but I figured they might want to know about a potentially bad batch of woofers. Well, customer service forwarded me to customer support out of India. They cared nothing about the details of the defect; I tried to give them the serial number but they didn't even want it. Pretty typical mass-market company that no longer prides itself on delivering quality. But, Infinity is of course not alone; they're just another brand in the sea trying to get the most products built by the cheapest labor and efficiently delivered to the affluent world. I'm disappointed, but you really have to expect this once in a while if you're paying 70 bucks for an 13lb speaker that would have cost $200 on the street a decade ago.

Finally, in regard to the subwoofer:
Pros:
- Highly efficient at 91db 1 watt/meter (beats polk equivalent)
- Great FS if ~30 hz, much lower than most 10's in this price range (beats polk equivalent)
- > 1 full inch of X-max (peak to peak) (much more room than the polk DB 10's)
- Quite good sound quality sealed or vented (awesome SPL vented and enough Xmax to handle it)
- Pretty nice looking
- True RMS handling of 40-275 watts, has no problem with 600 watt peaks from my crown amp
- Dirt cheap considering the above
- Nice powder coating on basket
- Good quality materials, similar to marine units
Cons:
- Voice coil - magnet clearance is tight and build quality is not perfect. If you have a conflict (chaffing noise) you will need to exchange the woofer
- Not black in color with nothing shiny (I don't like this stuff to call attention to itself)
- Very cheap DVC terminals require a soft tough to avoid damaging when mounting speaker

Recommendations:
- This needs a lower-tuned box then almost any off-the-shelf prefab vented enclosure you will find, otherwise you are not going to get the low end this sub can deliver
- Huge difference in SPL in the 36-90hz range going from sealed to vented; recommend vented if you can do it cleanly (proper volumes, vents, use 1lb of fill (batting) that does not obstruct vent
- Sub will play cleaner after several hours of break-in

Overall:
- Extremely high performing (sound quality and power handling) subwoofer for the money, but they're not all going to be perfectly put together coming from China at a super affordable price. Unlikely to do any better for the money if you want reasonably sound accuracy and efficient output. The DVC flexibility is a plus.

5Great value sub, awesome SQ and underrated power handling
By Jersey Guy
I've owned several different brands of subs in my lifetime, including JL, RockfordFosgate, Alpine and more. I have also worked at several audio shops, so I've heard some good and some bad subs. I needed a single 10" for an install in a smaller car with a single box, I needed one with a focus on Sound Quality and could handle 300watts from my Alpine mono amp. I didn't want to spend much and Infinity has a fantastic reputation for speakers and subs, ie: Kappa and Perfect series.

After carefully reviewing some options from other companies, I chose this sub because it is a great value and is underrated in terms of power handling. It is of high build quality and more importantly sounds great. In a .75 cu foot box, it is crisp and clear on tight drum kicks but can still handle long and low notes from rap songs. It is a must for anyone looking at a good valued SQ sub. As with any speaker, it is all in the setup. Get the right box, provide a quality clean signal (good amp and head-unit) give it some time to break in, and TUNE your system. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, especially with Amazon's low price and free shipping.

4Good Value - Questionable Longevity
By John
I threw this beast in a .75 Cu sealed enclosure and powered it with a 300-watt RMS Class D Monoblock. Everything was good, not super loud (especially in my trunk) but I prefer tight, accurate bass. Anyway, after about 6-months I started hearing a loud rattle when my volume was up; I thought I had shook something loose inside my car, but eventually I discovered that the subwoofer cone had partially separated from the rubber surround. I called up Infinity who said it was up to Amazon to honor the warranty, and did they ever, I received a replacement overnight. The new sub hits hard, and seems to have some minor changes from the old one. Hopefully it lasts longer this time.
